Forgot about understanding how to make the best logo in the world! If you can understand how to make the worst logo then you will be able to navigate the design world easier.
"Sucking at something is the first step towards being sorta good at something." - JAKE THE DOG
No one is great when the first start out.
Failure is key into understanding what makes project great or rubbish.
So I am going to take you through the process of making the worst logo in history so you don't do these mistakes in your work!
1. Over Customise the logo!
To start the worst logo design ever created you need to make it as complex as possible.
A logo is a combination of all the elements of your brand. This includes your values, history, features and mission statement.
If you try to fit all these elements into your logo it could end up looking messy and overcomplicated.
Instead of trying to fit them all in, pick one or something that relates to multiple options and use that as the logo.
This will allow your logo to look clean, be scalable and be easily understood by your customers.
2. Make it as obvious as possible!
Bad logos often try to make their business very obvious.
While this might sound a bit confusing, imagine the number of independent coffee shops that use coffee beans or a mug in their logos.
A logo should work whether you are serving 10 customers or 1 million and most of the major chains have more than just a coffee cup as their logo.
Instead of stating the obvious, try to create your logo around your values instead. This not only separates you from the general stores in your industry but also allows you to show customers why they should buy from you!
3. Add all the colours!
Colour is a double-edged sword in a logo. On one hand, you want your logo to grab attention and create emotion but on the other hand, it can look messy if you use way too many colours.
Your logo should look as good in black and white as it does with colour so don't try to make a bad logo design better by adding more colours.
In my opinion, the maximum amount you should have is 2 main colours for your logo plus a background colour and an accent colour.
Any more than this is way too much and your logo will mostly be used in alternative black and white versions anyway so the design is more important!
4. Make it one size
Whether that be a website, social media, business cards etc
Your logo should be recognisable in all sizes.
So to make the worst logo ever, make sure it only works on one of these touchpoints.
Having various forms of your logo for horizontal, vertical and square forms is perfect as you can use them in almost any setting.
Poorly scaling a logo can lead to confusion among customers and make your brand look sloppy and generic.
5. Follow trends
A brand that follows trends is great for a season or a decade, but will slowly fall out of relevancy quickly.
Your logo should be timeless and work for the entire lifecycle of your business.
Think about Coca-Cola for example.
They haven't changed the core concept of their logo for decades and it works as well today as it did in the 1900's.
So when creating your logo make sure it captures the essence of your brand and business rather than becoming another generic trendy logo.
So How Will You Create Your Logo?
Take these examples of bad logos to heart.
A brand has to be clear, understandable and timeless to succeed in today's market.
So when creating your logo make sure it will work 100 years down the line, not just for today.
